Ember Covenant
Ember Covenant surprised me by how much reading it expects of you, in a good way. This is a proper turn-based RPG with party management, a branching dialogue system, and choices that stick. Your mages each carry a grudge, and the writing leans into that instead of giving everyone the same cheerful voice.
Combat is a grid of elemental reactions. Fire dries puddles, ice freezes them, and clever enemies will try to use your own spells against you. It never gets fiddly, though, because the UI is tuned for a phone. Big buttons, clear turn order, no squinting.
There's a city you slowly rebuild between battles, and it gives every fight a point. I found myself choosing missions based on which district I wanted to restore next rather than for loot. That's rare on mobile and worth celebrating.
